OUR STORY
Built on a Friendship. Rooted in Montgomery.
Two different paths. One idea. A fire protection company built around experience, relationships and a modern way of doing business.
Where It Started
Long Before BMFSE, There Were Two Kids a Few Streets Apart.
Drew Brendle and Dawson McGough became friends growing up in Montgomery. Different high schools, different colleges and eventually different careers took them in different directions, but Montgomery remained home.
Drew went to Ole Miss. Dawson went to Auburn. Years later, after both had built careers of their own, those paths came back together.
Two Different Paths. One Idea.
If We Built a Fire Protection Company From the Ground Up Today, What Would We Do Differently?
What started as two old friends talking shop became a bigger conversation. Drew knew the fire protection industry from the inside. Dawson had spent his career seeing how businesses in other industries operated, used technology and grew across multiple markets.
They saw an opportunity to put those perspectives together.
Fire protection would always depend on technical knowledge, experience and personal relationships. None of that needed to change. But technology could make inspections better. Better systems could improve communication and recordkeeping. Customers could have easier access to information. Service could be more responsive. And a company built in Montgomery could provide that experience to businesses throughout Alabama.
That idea became Brendle McGough Fire & Safety Equipment.
Built on Relationships
Good Business Is Personal.
Long before BMFSE existed, Drew and Dawson understood the value of relationships. Their own began as kids growing up a few streets apart and has lasted through decades of change, time apart, families, careers and eventually becoming business partners.
That same philosophy shapes BMFSE today. Technology can make service faster, records better, communication easier and compliance simpler. But it cannot replace accountability or knowing the people you do business with.
Those relationships aren't assumed. They're earned.
By showing up. By doing what you say you'll do. By answering the phone. By treating someone's business like it matters. And by taking care of people year after year.
Old Roots. New Approach.
Montgomery Is Home.
Both the Brendle and McGough families have called Montgomery home for more than a century. BMFSE was built to continue serving the community that raised Drew and Dawson while bringing the same personal approach to businesses throughout Alabama.
We're proud of where we came from. We're excited about where we're going.
Meet the Founders
Two Backgrounds. One Company.
The experience behind BMFSE comes from two very different careers—Drew's lifetime around fire protection and Dawson's background in family business, operations, technology and growth.
Drew Brendle
Fire Protection From the Ground Up.
For Drew, fire protection had been part of life since childhood. He grew up around the industry, spending time in the shop and learning the business long before it became his profession.
After graduating from Ole Miss and returning home to Montgomery, Drew entered the fire and safety industry full time. Over more than 15 years, he learned the business from the ground up—working with equipment, understanding codes and compliance requirements, solving problems in the field and working directly with businesses throughout the area.
That experience taught him something beyond the technical side of fire protection: this is a relationship business. Customers need people they trust to show up, communicate clearly, know their facilities and take care of them year after year.
Dawson McGough
Family Business, Operations and a Different Perspective.
For Dawson, business was part of growing up in Montgomery too, but in a different industry. After graduating from Auburn, he returned home to work in his family's automobile business. For generations, the McGough family and its dealerships were a familiar part of Montgomery's business community.
When that chapter ended, Dawson's career took him through the restaurant industry and then the construction industry, with work across Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Texas. Along the way, he gained experience managing people and operations, opening and operating offices, implementing technology and building systems to help businesses work better and grow.
Eventually, his career brought him back home to Alabama—and back into regular conversation with an old friend.
